Word scrambler

A word scrambler is the inverse of an unscrambler: type a real word and shuffle it into a puzzle. The page also lists every ENABLE anagram so you do not publish a scramble with two answers by accident. Paste a scramble instead and it solves it.

Try LETTERS or PUZZLES. Tap Reshuffle until the chunks look unlike the original. To only solve, stay here or use unjumble.

Use ? for a blank tile. Words appear as you type.

Word.tips, UnscrambleX and WordUnscrambler.net all ship a scrambler as well as an unscrambler. Teachers, quiz hosts and worksheet makers need the inverse: a fair mixed-up word. This page shuffles in the browser and tells you if the anagram is unique.

A good scramble breaks obvious chunks (ING, TION, QU), moves every letter, and has one ENABLE solution. If the list shows several anagrams, pick a rarer word or accept that solvers may find the other answer.

Solving a scramble is the same as unjumbling. Related: unjumble, jumble solver and the letter unscrambler.

FAQ

Is a word scrambler the same as a word unscrambler?

No. A scrambler mixes a known word into a puzzle. An unscrambler takes mixed letters and lists words. This page does both: shuffle a word, or paste a scramble to list its anagrams.

How many ways can one word be scrambled?

A word of n distinct letters has n! shuffles. LETTERS has repeats, so fewer unique shuffles. What matters for a puzzle is how many ENABLE anagrams exist, not how many shuffles.

Can I scramble several words?

Scramble each word here, then type the mixed forms into the multiple-word unscrambler to check the answers.
